The Secret of Departure

If DroppedIn has an overall philosophy, perhaps it can be found through some combination of the below:

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream." -Mark Twain
"I left Pasadena for Europe when I was nineteen, with absolutely no money at all...simply because I'd been reading a lot of Henry Miller's stories about living in Paris. Once you learn the secret of departure, it's easy after that." -My Dad

I've never been much of one for "inspirational quotes," but I thought these two guys summed everything up quite neatly.

I just stumbled onto your site, and I hope you don't mind if I ask this: how did going to Europe with no money work out for your dad?

Hey Dan,

Thanks for stopping by. I'll let my dad field your question, he keeps up with the blog and I would hate to answer for him.

Hi Malcolm & Jillian,

That Mark Twain quote is perfect. I regret not studying abroad in college in a Spanish speaking country which is why we're planning to move to MX in the early summer.

We're debating how to set up our accounts, forward mail, etc. and who we should have stateside helping us and how. I'd like to ask you a couple questions about how you guys set it up. Can you email me?

Thanks!
Allie
