PAN Forced to Drown Their Sorrows in a Bathtub Full of Gin
The weekend ended with a successful election and a victory for the PRI party with Ivonne becoming the governadora of Yucatan based on a platform (we think) of looking smashing in a bold red suit. We knew that we could not purchase alcohol from the market but were totally surprised to not be allowed a glass of wine with lunch on Saturday. or Sunday. We were able to buy a bottle of beer from our local mini super, however.
"Mexico's alcohol ban dates back to Gen. Plutarco Elias Calles, then the governor of Sonora, who forbade the sale of alcohol in 1915 during a period of political crisis in the country," according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
In Connecticut you cannot buy liquor after 8 o'clock and not at all on Sundays or holidays. I always felt sorry for the cases of beer suffocating beneath the heavy brown pall on the shelves at Super Stop & Shop. It was always a terrific scramble in college to get everyones nickels and dimes together and make it to the store ontime.
I think that Mexico's policy is very reasonable. Drunk people should definitely not vote. Perhaps I was intoxicated when I voted for Nader in 2000? I can't remember! Blue laws, which also forbid a person from keeping an ice cream cone in one's back pocket and looking up while peeing on Sunday, are silly.
Defy them and enjoy a slice of cherry pie after church this week.

Ivonne is the future! I heart Yuc! PRI! PRI! PRI!
Will this comment send me to jail, for meddling in Mexican politics?

I don't know about jail, but if it wasn't for you meddling kids I would have gotten away with committing a crime dressed up like Don Notts/Mama Cass
