Stop Time with Your Mind
This is a very interesting little effect. The deal is, you look at any analog clock with a sweep second hand. After watching the second hand for a minute or so, you direct your stare to a point on the clock about 20-25 minutes ahead of where the second hand is, so that you can see the second hand using only your peripheral vision. After a few tries, you will find that the second hand seems to stop. Now, the website puts all of this in the context of an exploration of quantum physics. Of course, it could also be a simple optical illusion. The fact is, though, that every time you can get your mind to stop that second hand, you feel a leap in your heart and a pulse in your brain as though you really have just stopped the universe from spinning. It’s a lot of fun, and your brain only gets better at it the more you do it.
