Progress in Chelem
Oh la vache. One month and we must be out! We’ve gotten comfortable here, spread out, acquired a few things, made a bit of a mess. We are entrenched and yet, anxious for the next step. We have made the very best of a place that frankly frightened me when first I saw it. It looked so rough and strange when I walked in and now it does sort of seem like home. Cervantes is hanging directly in front of me, inspiring, menacing, here is where we found Olivia in the road, because we moved here we finally got a car. I feel a little sick, when I look around the new house, bare bones, all exposed, like a shell, a victim, a blank slate. I can imagine us snug inside.
It is thrilling to choose things like tile and appliances. We’ve seen models we like at Home Depot and Liverpool, and an exceptional sleigh bed from Marbol will be an early wedding gift to ourselves. I know that in time it will have built in bookshelves, wrought iron Malcolm helped design, and great sliding glass doors from a vendor around the corner. We are making big decisions and hoping for the best, that the albaniles will finish the kitchen in time, that it is comfortable and secure so that we can leave it alone for a few months as the wedding approaches and expenses mount. In a month we move to Chelem, into our little house on the Gulf of Mexico.

You guys crack me up. I think I saw you running frantically through the Progresso Bodega (the walmart in disguise one, right at the bridge)…wanted to shout out a Hi…but alas was in the middle of a confounding exchange at the cash register…anyway, we live between Chelem & Chuburna..just moved in ( so to speak) last month. I am back up in Scappoose Oregon for a couple of weeks, finishing up business here while my husband is working in Merida, and finally have internet access besides at a cafe or skimming off of our neighbor’s wireless. Questions, of course, always questions, and I couldn’t find a contact us link..so am making an effort here to make contact! What internet service do you use? We have only been directed to Hughes…and been told that there is a $2000 USD, yes, USD, hookup fee? We have tried other resources, some perhaps a bit “clandestine”, but are having no luck…any hints? Hope things are moving along for you…for us it is very slow….slow…oh, and did I mention ……slow? Hah! Anyway….love your site, very fun and informative..hope to hear from you sometime. PS, is it just us or does your brain turn to mush around 1pm…?
