I am sad to hear that you are going back... We have all been there, believe me. I came 3 years ago with my husband who is a native Yucatecan. I am sad not only to hear that you are returning but mostly that you didn't continue to tearn Spanish. You missed out on more than just general communication but on the whole culture that comes with the language. It is hard to always be on the outside. I am a Spanish teacher. I left the US and a wonderful career teaching a few years ago and really miss it. I have picked it up again in the snow-bird months but alas, they are all about to leave. Sadly, the majority of the x pats here do not persue learning the language, hence missing out on what is really going on around them. Missing out on possible new friendships, experiences they could have had and possibly causing themselves hard times because of the fact that they really don't have a full understanding of what is said to them and can't really make themselves known and understood.
I am sad that you have to return... the language does make a difference! For anyone reading this and feeling the same.. I can help you and you can help me. I am a Spanish teacher. I live in Chicxulub and for my teaching experience, I am not expensive. I love teaching Spanish.. I am just missing the willing students. I have a sign on my gate, so you can't miss me. Take care and good luck.
