Reeducation Camp Counselor
We’ve been living off the leash for the last four years. Since we are currently preparing to return to the rules and regulations of Americalandia it’s time to re-familiarize ourselves with the laws of civilized society and introduce our dog to the concept of boundaries and restraint. Olivia is a high-spirited animal, smart, super fast, and tough, and as Malcolm pointed out, the entire beach has been her territory. She dominates all dogs in the CP* and we’ve allowed that to happen. Because it was easy to let her loose and independent. It’s liberating to be so free.
When we first moved out here we were quite alone. Not so today when a walk down our street is a busy gallery of albaniles, constructing second stories of concrete and palapa, putting in pools, adding columns and gates and windows. There is a buzz of activity and the future looks promising for our little neighborhood. With blatant disregard for other sentient beings, Olivia is always chasing, basically anything on two wheels or four legs, generally being a menace. But all that is about to change. I’m in charge of her reeducation and she is a mostly willing pupil.
She’s going to have to walk on a leash instead of charging like hell toward birds and children in her sights. I am going to have to scoop her poop. Yes, it will be a humbling experience for us both. No more beach walks stalking horses. No more more following me on my bike into town. She’ll be a proper pet who stays all day in an apartment. Olivia will thrive because she is loyal and adaptable. When I snap on her purple collar she keeps pace with me and walks proud. She responds well to discipline and craves order. It will be good for us. We can’t be wild beach girls forever.
